I even recently cloned my HDD using Disk Utility to a new SSD, and the problem continued to persist on the new drive as well (which isn't terribly surprising). This issue appears to exist across all users on the machine. Not really sure what to try next, and I can't find any issues like this one online (probably because keywords flood me with more common Trash and file copying issues). And I reviewed the permissions of the Trash in the Get Info window, and it appears to be correct. I tried resetting permissions with a Terminal command. I tried running First Aid from Disk Utility. On the other hand, moving files does work without a hitch, which I find particularly puzzling. However, in this case the operation has rarely been completed once Finder relaunches. ![]() Progress bar hangs in a full state and can only be gotten rid of by relaunching Finder. I then started to noticed that I was having issues copying files as well. The operation would be complete after this. The cancel button would not work, and the only way to get rid of the progress indicator was to kill and relaunch Finder. I recently started having issues where emptying the Trash would hang when the progress bar reached the end. I have a late 2009 iMac running High Sierra (10.13.6). I use two SSDs per machine, one for the OS and one for data.)Įmptying Trash and copying files hang when end of progress bar is reached. (If it's relevant: Both machines are maxed out on RAM. (And I have zero negative side-effects of keeping it closed.) I'm hoping someone has at least one additional answer. I know that one answer to this problem is for me to stop being so obsessive, and let Finder stay open. just bringing up the Open dialogue doesn't launch Finder, but as soon as any item is selected (without yet clicking Cancel or Open), Finder immediately launches.Īs I said, this doesn't happen in Mojave on the 2012 MBP. Even more specifically, Finder only launches upon the first highlighting of a file or folder in the Open dialogue i.e. This does not seem to happen when the "Save" dialogue box comes up, only the "Open" window. Problem: But on the 2011 17", Finder will launch itself under the following specific circumstance: In any app, when I "Open" the Open File dialogue box, Finder launches. installing an app to avoid quarantining). I'm a Path Finder user, and am used to keeping Finder closed, except when needed for specific tasks (e.g. Set ups on both machines are very similar. Mojave Finder Misbehavior I have two unibody MBPs, a 2012 15" and an early 2011 17" (w/bad GPU permanently bypassed), both running 10.14.6. One is met with either a BLACK screen or perhaps an open folder elsewhere on the system…. There has also been a problem with Quicklook on a Multi Monitor set up since High Sierra in which spacebar on a Deskttop Icon opens content other that that desired in Full Screen mode. Has anyone here experienced this issue or would be willing to try and replicate this? I have tested this to 10.14.3 but obviously there is absolutely no point in trying to inform Apple of the problem! Is anyone aware of a workaround or cure for the issue? I’ve spent many days at a time googling solutions to no avail… Basically unusable.Īs a result I have had to AGAIN downgrade to High Sierra and everything is slick and as quick as you would expect Effectively read write with this is like an Ant trying to crawl across a Tar field… Icon Thumbs don’t update at times for several minutes, trying to Quicklook a Movie just hangs or doesn’t open at all, or lags…. Here’s the scenario if anyone would like to ret and replicate it.įinder seems to work reasonably well if slower than High Sierra on Internal volumes but I have my Movie and Audio Libraries saved to sparse bundle Volume on an external USB 3 drive. … and YES I do have CleanMyMac installed and have done for several years - and swear by it! Onyx Also and MacPilot! Great apps all 3 of them! (But absolutely never MacKeeper Evilware!) Over the past 3 to 4 months I have reinstalled MacOS Mojave no less than 5 times - mainly to see if this would correct Finder issues and Quicklook. And here There is most definitely an issue with both of these features in this definition of the OS and before I get the customary “expert” answers here like Reset pram and SMC etc this is an OS related problem and NOT a hardware issue. ![]()
